M&A Transaction
OZ Minerals & Argonaut
Argonaut acted as Advisor and Broker to OZ Minerals’ $100 million Share Raid acquisition of their 19.9% interest in Sandfire Resources NL in 2010. OZ Minerals (ASX:100) is an international copper-gold exploration and development company based in South Australia with assets in Australia and Brazil. The Share Raid was purchased from a small number of high net worth / institutional investors. The acquisition was conducted out of OZ Minerals’ interest in opportunities presented in Sandfire’s Doolgunna Project, a sulphide, copper and gold mineralisation operation in the Yerrida Basin in Western Australia.
OZ Minerals was formed in 2008 after the merger of Oxiana and Zinifex, two non-ferrous metals Australian mining businesses. The Company’s primary venture is the wholly-owned Prominent Hill copper-gold open-pit underground mining operation in northern South Australia. In 2009, China Non-Ferrous Metals Co Ltd acquired a portion of OZ Minerals’ assets which allowed OZ to purchase the Carrapateena Exploration Project located in Gawler Craton in South Australia in 2011. The Carrapateena Project first produced its concentrate in 2019 after years of research and construction of facilities. OZ Minerals’ other assets also include the West Musgrave Project in the Musgrave Province of Western Australia, the Antas Project and the Pedra Branca Project, both located in Carajás, Pará northern region of Brazil, and the CentroGold Project in Maranhão northern Brazil.
