Key News Overnight:
Spot gold advanced 0.2% to US$1,840/oz, having earlier dipped as much as 0.6%. U.S. gold futures settled up 0.3% to US$1,844/oz.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 47 points, or 0.2%, to close at 30,046, the S&P 500 lost 5 points, or 0.1%, to 3,663 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 28 points, or 0.2%, to 12,378.
