    Key News Overnight:

U.S. stocks fell amid a mixed bag of corporate earnings and growing speculation a trade deal with China remains elusive. Treasuries edged lower as the Federal Reserve began deliberating on the path for interest rates.

President Donald Trump lashed out at China for what he said is its unwillingness to buy American agricultural products and said it continues to “rip off” the U.S., just as the two nations resumed negotiations in Shanghai following a three-month breakup.

Gold held a back-to-back gain above $1,400 an ounce, supported by inflows into exchange-traded products, as investors counted down to this week’s Federal Reserve meeting.

Speculators are piling into the silver- options market as the precious metal returns to the limelight ahead of the Federal Reserve meeting, where policy makers are widely expected to cut U.S. borrowing costs.

Oil surged as the Federal Reserve moved toward a rate-cut to boost the economy while tensions with Iran threatened to choke Middle East supplies. Futures in New York closed 2.1% higher, rising for a fourth straight session.
