    Key News Overnight:

    China plans measures to reduce corporate taxes and cut government expenses, Finance Minister Liu Kun wrote in Qiushi. As for Hong Kong, it faces “tsunami-like” shocks, and may incur a record budget deficit next fiscal year.

    The COVID-19 outbreak is on the verge of a global pandemic if containment steps fail to show more success, said Anthony Fauci, head of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Earlier, the head of a hospital in Wuhan said a turning point has been reached and that new infections are declining.

    Japan’s economy took a hit in the fourth quarter from the sales tax hike and disruptions by typhoons. Consensus is for GDP to contract 3.8% on an annualised quarterly basis, compared with a 1.8% gain in the prior period.

    Saudi Arabia will begin exporting natural gas soon, Energy Minister Prince Abdulazziz bin Salman said, according to Al Arabiya. Aramco announced it’s in ongoing discussions to carry out different projects within the gas industry.
