Choppy start: A short time ago mining services companies were giving upbeat comments at AGMs and pointing to their battery critical mineral exposures. January has not started well for miners exposed to nickel and lithium though, amidst significantly weaker prices. Nickel casualties include Savannah, mining halted at Ravensthorpe, and Wyloo’s nickel mines reportedly onto care & maintenance (C&M). BHP is evaluating options at Nickel West, and IGO is reviewing Cosmos. Liontown is examining expansion plans at the Kathleen Valley lithium project and Alcoa is to shut its Alumina Refinery in Kwinana.
