Key News Overnight:
U.K. Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond refused to rule out backing a no-confidence motion against the government if the next prime minister tries to force a no-deal Brexit on Parliament. Theresa May announced on Friday that she is stepping down after repeatedly failing to win parliamentary support for her agreement with the EU.
Angela Merkel’s alliance appeared poised to win Europe’s parliamentary elections, with Emmanuel Macron suffering a setback. Mainstream EU groups were holding their ground over populist movements, while support for environmentalists surged.
Iran’s top diplomats are touring neighbouring countries to try to shore up support after the U.S. announced plans to increase troop deployments in the region and sell weapons to some of the Islamic Republic’s top rivals.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is meeting with US President Donald Trump as the two leaders sit down in an attempt to resolve tensions over trade and defence ties.
Base metal prices were higher by up to 3.8%, with Nickel leading the way. Gold rose marginally while Brent crude and WTI were both up, 0.8% and 1.2% respectively.
