World leaders convene at the UN General Assembly in New York this week with one of Donald Trump’s least favourite topics front and centre: global warming. Secretary General Antonio Guterres hosts a Climate Action Summit that will include politicians and business titans.
U.K. opposition Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said his party would hold a second referendum on Brexit by June if it wins a majority in a general election this year but wouldn’t say which way he would vote. Britain’s Supreme Court will decide this week whether Boris Johnson broke the law in suspending Parliament ahead of the Brexit deadline.
Another weekend of unrest across Hong Kong. Protesters crowded malls in the city’s Kowloon and New Territories districts on Sunday, after an afternoon that saw some people vandalize a train station before clashing with riot police in Shatin.
Oil edged lower on Friday but still posted the biggest weekly gain in months. Updates on recovery of Saudi Arabia’s output following the attack may come throughout this week. Spot gold scored the largest weekly advance since early August. Nickel climbed for a third day.
