    Key News Overnight:

Boris Johnson grudgingly asked the EU to postpone Brexit until Jan. 31, as he was bound by law to do after Parliament delayed a formal vote on his deal. He also vowed to push on with a plan to leave by his Oct. 31.

President Trump backtracked on his idea to host next year’s G-7 meeting at his Trump National Doral golf resort after facing widespread criticism that he was using a major international government event for personal gain.

Finance ministers and central bankers from around the globe gave momentum to the idea of fiscal stimulus as the way to revive a sagging world economy. But there was little agreement on how to do so. A synchronized slowdown across almost 90% of the world economy dominated talks at the International Monetary Fund and World Bank’s annual meetings in Washington.

Hong Kong protesters unleashed another wave of destruction on the city, setting fires and wrecking shops in a pattern of violence that has taken root after 20 weeks of demonstrations, as Carrie Lam prepares to head to Japan for a two-day visit.

Oil posted a weekly loss amid concerns over a slowing global economy and abundant crude supplies. Gold and palladium dropped on Friday, while copper and aluminium climbed on the LME.
