Key News Overnight:
Boris Johnson is stuck, and Brexit remains in limbo. He told Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn that French President Emmanuel Macron could veto another extension, potentially forcing the U.K. out of the EU without a deal. EU officials said the bloc won’t make a decision on a delay when its ambassadors meet in Brussels.
Donald Trump lifted recently imposed sanctions against Turkey, citing the cease-fire agreement with Kurdish forces in Syria brokered by Russia. The president said penalties would be reimposed if Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s forces resume attacks on the Kurds.
Tesla unexpectedly turned a profit and sent shares soaring more than 20% in post-market trading. The electric car maker posted a surprise adjusted EPS of $1.86 a share when consensus called for a loss of 24 cents. The company also said it was confident it can exceed 360,000 deliveries this year.
U.S. stocks advanced as investors sifted through a slew of earlier earnings, Asian equity futures are in the green. Crude extended gains. Spot gold climbed for a second day and palladium dropped. Base metals mostly rose, led by copper.
