Spot gold rose 1.8% to US$1,872/oz, having risen to an over one-week high earlier.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 259 points, or 0.8%, to 31,188, the S&P 500 gained 53 points, or 1.4%, to 3,852 and the Nasdaq Composite added 260 points, or 2.0%, to 13,457.
