A White House meeting between President Donald Trump and congressional leaders to discuss the situation with Turkey and Syria broke down amid insults and arguments as the fallout from the abrupt U.S. withdrawal continues to spread, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Trump appeared to be “shaken” by the fact that 129 GOP lawmakers voted earlier in the day for a resolution rebuking the president for withdrawing U.S. forces from Syria.
Over the past 24 hours, a Brexit deal has seemed exasperatingly near, only for a series of conflicting messages, denials and clarifications to muddy the waters, but on the eve of a critical summit of European leaders, all the signs point to a growing determination to finally put to an end a divorce saga that has dragged on for more than three years.
Global oil prices rose by around 1.0% on reports that OPEC will extend output curbs at its December 5 meeting, the gold price rose 0.6% to US$1,490.00, base metal prices were mixed on the London Metal Exchange on Wednesday. Nickel fell by 3.3% and copper lost 0.7%. But other metals rose by 0.3-1.2%.
