Key News Overnight:
The Fed expects to stay on the sidelines for all of 2020. The FOMC kept rates on hold and forecast no changes through next year’s presidential election. In the first unanimous vote since May, officials removed a reference to “uncertainties” about the economic outlook, noting growth has been moderate with “solid” job gains.
The U.K. votes today to determine whether PM Boris Johnson gets the mandate he wants to “get Brexit done” or will have to hand the reins to Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn. Polls have consistently shown a Tory win, but the margin has narrowed in recent days. Results should be in by early Friday.
Oil fell to the lowest level in almost a week after U.S. crude and fuel inventories both increased. Copper in New York posted its longest rally since mid-2018, while nickel rebounded in London after slumping to a five-month low. The market is becoming increasingly bullish on a copper recovery.
Precious metals were higher across the board, led by platinum.
