Spot gold was down 0.7% at US$1,865/oz. U.S. gold futures fell 0.9% to US$1,868/oz.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 23 points, or 0.1%, to 29,398, the S&P 500 gained 27 points, or 0.8%, to 3,573 and the Nasdaq Composite added 233 points, or 2 %, to 11,786.
