Key News Overnight:
Spot gold fell 0.3% to US$2,028/oz, having hit a record high of US$2,072/oz on Friday. U.S. gold futures settled up 0.6% at US$2,039/oz.
Brent crude rose 82 US cents, or 1.3%, to US$44.96ppb. West Texas Intermediate crude settled 72 US cents, or 1.7%, higher at US$41.94ppb.
The greenback rose to one-week highs against the euro and Swiss currency. The dollar index also recouped some losses from July when it fell 4%.
