Key News Overnight:
Spot gold closed down 0.3% at US$1,929/oz, moving further away from a one-week low of US$1,916/oz touched on Friday. U.S. markets are shut for the Labor Day holiday on Monday.
Brent crude closed at US$42.01bbl, down 45 US cents or 1.1%, after earlier sliding to US$41.51bbl, the lowest since July 30.
