Key News Overnight:
US Stocks rose on Thursday, erasing most of the steep losses from earlier in the week, as global bond yields rebounded while investors digested better-than-expected trade data out of China.
Spot gold was up 0.4% at $1,500.7 per ounce, the metal has risen more than 16% so far this year, and about $100 over the past week.
Oil jumped more than $1 a barrel on Thursday on expectations that falling prices could lead to production cuts, coupled with a steadying of the yuan currency after a week of turmoil spurred by an escalation in U.S.-China trade tensions.
Base metal prices were sharply higher on the London Metal Exchange on Thursday. Nickel rose by 7% with lead up 4.5%. Tin recorded the smallest gain, up 0.6%.
