Key News Overnight:
Breaking above $2,000 for the first time on Tuesday and hitting a new intraday high of $2,055.10 an ounce earlier on Wednesday, spot gold was up 1% at $2,039.50.
Brent crude was up 70 US cents, or 2.1%, at US$45.36ppb. West Texas Intermediate oil settled 49 US cents, or 1.18%, higher at US$42.19ppb.
The S&P 500 climbed 0.64 per cent for the session, backing up a solid day’s trade in European markets, with consumer discretionary, financials and industrial stocks underpinning the session’s gains.
